Borstar® HE3490-LS

Borstar HE3490-LS PE100 is a high-quality black bimodal HDPE granule independently developed and produced by Borealis using advanced Borstar technology. As a standard PE100 grade material, it meets the minimum required strength (MRS) of 10.0 MPa at 50 years and 20℃ in line with ISO 4427 standards.  It is also classified as PE100-RC grade according to the revised draft of EN/ISO PE pressure pipe standards.  HE3490-LS PE100 granulars contain a reasonable combination of stabilizers and carbon black, which effectively ensures long-term stability and UV resistance of the material, making it suitable for various harsh working environments.

Core Performance Advantages of Borouge HE3490-LS PE100

>> Excellent Crack Resistance

Tests show that under the accelerated full notch creep test in 2% Dehyton solution (4 MPa, 90℃), its service life is ≥550 hours. In the accelerated notched pipe test in 2% Arkopal N-100 solution (9.2 bar, 80℃), it can reach ≥300 hours, which is far higher than the industry average level. In addition, it also performs excellently in the cracked round bar (CRB) test, with ≥1.5 million cycles under the condition of 12.5 MPa and 23℃, showing strong crack resistance even under long-term stress.

>> Superior Mechanical Properties

High tensile strength and elongation at break of Borstar HE3490-LS PE100 ensure the PE100 pipes has strong impact resistance and toughness, which can effectively resist soil movement, external impact, and other factors during underground laying, reducing the risk of pipe breakage and leakage. At the same time, its Charpy impact strength at 0℃ reaches 16 kJ/m², and the brittleness temperature is lower than -70℃, which can maintain stable performance even in cold environments.

>> Excellent Processability

The MFR of  0.25 g/10 min at 190℃/5.0 kg is in the optimal range for thick-walled and large-diameter pipe production. It can be processed for the entire diameter range of pipes, meeting the diverse production needs of enterprises. In addition, the carbon black dispersion of the material is ≤3, which ensures the uniform performance of the product and avoids local performance degradation caused by uneven carbon black distribution.

>> Long-Term Stability and Environmental Friendliness

With an oxidation induction time of ≥20 minutes at 210℃, Borstar HE3490-LS PE100 can effectively resist thermal oxidation aging and extend the service life of the pipe system to more than 50 years under normal use conditions. In addition, the material is non-toxic and odorless, meets the relevant standards for drinking water contact materials. It has passed the CC3 chlorine classification test according to ASTM D 3350, making it safe and reliable for drinking water pipe applications.

Application Fields of Borstar HE3490-LS HDPE Pipe Grade

  1. Water Supply and Pipeline Renovation. Borstar HE3490-LS PE100 is particularly suitable for drinking water pipe systems and the renovation of old pipelines.  In addition, it is also used in water supply pipelines in remote areas.
  1. Gas Distribution. Borstar HE3490-LS PE100 can withstand the pressure of gas transmission and has good resistance to gas condensate, meeting the relevant requirements of EN 1555-1 standard, ensuring the safety and stability of gas transmission and reducing the risk of gas leakage.
  1. Industrial and Special Pipeline Applications. Borstar HE3490-LS PE100 can be used to produce pressure pipes for industrial media transmission, corrugated pipes, cable protection pipes, and glass fiber ducts. It is also suitable for sea outfall projects, with good corrosion resistance to seawater, ensuring the service life of the outfall pipeline in the marine environment.
  1. Large-Diameter and Thick-Walled Pipes. Its excellent processability and mechanical properties can ensure the quality and performance of large-diameter pipes, meeting the needs of large-scale water supply, gas transmission, and other engineering projects, and reducing the number of pipe joints and construction costs.
