Cast Film Grade PP

PP Thin Wall Resin

What Is Cast Film?

Cast film is a type of plastic film made by rapidly setting molten plastic on cooling rollers. In this process, molten polymer is extruded through a flat die onto cooling rollers. The film cools and solidifies rapidly on the rollers, then is stretched and wound into rolls. Films produced by this process are characterized by uniform thickness, high transparency, and good gloss, making them suitable for high-end packaging and industrial applications.

What Is PP Cast Film?

PP cast film is a cast film made of polypropylene resin (usually PP homopolymer or random copolymer PP). Due to its excellent mechanical, optical, and thermal properties, PP cast film is widely used in food packaging, composite films, tapes, labels, and industrial packaging.

Excellent Properties of Polypropylene Cast Film

  1. Excellent Optical Properties

High Transparency. Due to the rapid cooling rate, the molecular chains do not have time to form large crystalline structures, making CPP film as clear and transparent as glass, fully showcasing the appearance of the packaged contents and enhancing the product’s appeal.

High Gloss. The film surface is extremely smooth and flat, like a mirror, with strong light reflection, making the overall packaging look vibrant, bright, and high-end.

  1. Excellent Heat-Sealing Performance

Low-Temperature heat-sealing. CPP film is commonly used as the heat-sealing layer for packaging bags. It achieves a strong seal at relatively low temperatures, improving packaging efficiency and saving energy.

Wide heat-sealing temperature range. Compared to other materials, CPP maintains good heat-sealing strength over a wider temperature range. This reduces the stringent requirements for temperature control precision in production, increasing yield.

High heat-sealing strength. The seal is strong and not easily broken during transportation and handling, ensuring the airtightness and integrity of the packaging.

  1. Excellent Barrier Properties

Excellent water vapor barrier properties. CPP has a very strong barrier function against moisture, effectively preventing the contents from becoming damp or drying out. This is crucial for moisture-sensitive products such as biscuits, potato chips, and baked goods.

Good oil resistance. It resists oil penetration, preventing oil seepage when packaging oily foods and maintaining a clean packaging appearance.

  1. Mechanical and Processing Properties

Excellent thickness uniformity. The casting process produces films with very small thickness tolerances, which is crucial for ensuring stable operation of packaging machinery, sealing quality, and subsequent printing and lamination effects.

Good flexibility and soft hand feel. Compared to blown polypropylene, CPP has a lower molecular chain orientation, making it softer and more comfortable to the touch.

Good impact resistance. Especially its low-temperature impact resistance, making the film less prone to damage during refrigeration or transportation.

Excellent printability and lamination adaptability. The smooth surface is ideal for high-quality gravure printing; after corona treatment, the high surface tension results in strong adhesion to inks and adhesives, making it easy to laminate with other materials (such as BOPP, BOPET, aluminum foil, etc.).

  1. Safety and Hygiene Performance

Non-toxic and odorless. Meets hygiene standards for food and pharmaceutical packaging.

Chemically inert. Will not chemically react with the contents of the packaging, ensuring product safety.

What Are Main Applications of Polypropylene Cast Film

  1. Food Packaging is the largest application area for CPP

General Packaging. Used for bread, pastry, and biscuit packaging, utilizing its excellent moisture barrier properties to prevent moisture absorption, and high transparency to showcase the product. Used in candy, instant noodle, and noodle packaging, good heat-sealing properties make easy package.

Blister Packaging Lids. Used for packaging cooked food, fruit, snacks, easy to open and seal.

High-temperature retort packaging. It can be used to make retort pouches, allowing for sterilization at temperatures up to 121°C or even 135°C.

Barrier Packaging. By combining with high-barrier materials (such as BOPA nylon, EVOH co-extruded film), used for packaging oily foods, pickled products and meats.

  1. Textile and Daily Consumer Goods Packaging

Transparent packaging bags for shirts, towels, and bedding, utilizing their high transparency and gloss to enhance product quality.

Stationery, photo albums, and cosmetics packaging.

  1. Industrial Applications

Protective Film. Used as a surface protective film for electronic products, stainless steel sheets, aluminum sheets, and plastic sheets to prevent scratches during transportation and processing. This type of CPP film is usually specially treated to have suitable adhesion, allowing for firm adhesion yet easy peeling without leaving residue.

  1. Other Special Applications

Architectural Decoration. Used as a release film or temporary protective layer for certain decorative materials.

Capacitor Insulation Dielectric. Require extremely high purity and thickness uniformity of the film.
