PP Fiber

What is fiber-grade polypropylene (PP) resin?

Fiber-grade polypropylene resin is a high-purity, high-performance polymer produced through a precision polymerization process and rigorous molecular design. It is a high-performance specialty polypropylene designed specifically for the production of chemical fibers. Its excellent properties of spinnability, lightweight, strong, and chemically stable have made it an indispensable building block for a wide range of industries, including textiles, nonwovens, and industrial yarns.

The key difference between fiber-grade PP resin and general-purpose PP used for injection molding or blow molding lies in its extremely high isotacticity, narrow molecular weight distribution, and optimized rheological properties.

These properties ensure that the resin forms a stable, uniform stream during the melt spinning process and is smoothly drawn into high-strength, uniformly fine continuous filaments or staple fibers. Therefore, spinnability is a key indicator of PP fiber grade quality.

What Are Key Characteristics of PP Fiber Grade

Excellent spinnability. Its regular molecular chain structure and stable and optimal melt flow index (MFI) enable it to adapt to high-speed spinning processes, reduce filament breakage, and improve production efficiency.

Lightweight. With a density of only 0.91 g/cm³, it is the lightest of all chemical fibers, making fabrics made from it lightweight and highly resistant.

Excellent Strength and Abrasion Resistance. PP fibers, after stretching and orientation, possess high strength and excellent abrasion resistance, making them suitable for products requiring high durability.

Hydrophobicity. It does not absorb water, preventing it from penetrating the fiber. It quickly draws away sweat and moisture, keeping the skin dry. This property makes it an ideal material for sportswear, diapers, and sanitary products.

Chemical Stability. It is highly resistant to acids, alkalis, oils, and most solvents, making it non-corrosive and easy to clean.

Hygienic and Safety. It is non-toxic and odorless, meeting regulatory requirements for food and medical contact materials, and can be used in filters, medical nonwovens, and other applications.

Recyclability. As a thermoplastic, PP fiber products are easily recyclable and reusable, aligning with the circular economy and sustainable development trends.

What Are Main Applications of PP Fiber Grade

  1. Nonwovens

Hygienic Materials Surface, distribution, and backing layers of baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, and adult incontinence products.

Medical supplies. Surgical gowns, protective clothing, masks, disinfection wraps, bed sheets, etc.

Geotechnical and building materials. Geotextiles, waterproof membrane base fabrics, and building insulation materials.

Household and cleaning. Wet wipes, rags, shopping bags, and filter materials.

  1. Traditional Textiles

Industrial textiles. Safety ropes, cables, strapping tape, tarpaulins, carpet backings, and veils.

Apparel and home textiles. Sportswear thermal underwear, socks, down jacket fillings, blankets, and decorative fabrics.

Carpets. Expanded continuous filament carpets are widely used for their wear resistance, moisture resistance, and low cost.
